If the hat fits: A top tip for selecting a wedding photographer

For my first blog on the Bowen and Maggs Wedding Photography website I'd like to discuss one of the factors that I think all couples need to look at when they are considering hiring a wedding photographer.

I would always recommend that they seek to find a photographer that has a background in media work.

There are many reasons for this but the major one is you can be sure that those photographers that have this experience on their CVs have demonstrated their ability to respond rapidly to events as they unfold.

They will have experience of coping with a quickly evolving photography landscape and can adapt very quickly to changing circumstances in a way that will allow them to capture the most unexpected and rewarding shots.

For instance, if you think about it children attending weddings present a treasure trove of potential photographic possibilities.

As a photographer, you have to be able to respond quickly to unexpected opportunities as these can very often present a chance to shoot those images that will put a smile on everyone’s face.

A great example of this is James’ photo of a young wedding guest whose eyes were covered after his oversized top hat slid down over his eyes. The result is a heart-warming and humorous image that was only captured because of his alertness.

Both James and I have extensive experience in the media. Over the years we have found ourselves in all sorts of situations that required an ability to think on our feet, with eyes wide open, to get the best shots.

As providers of Shropshire and Herefordshire wedding photography, we’d be happy to do the same for you.
